A few weeks ago I got a random call from a parent asking if @picklepowerkids could host her son’s birthday. I told her honestly that it’s not something we do. She said her son had played a bit of pickleball and that’s what he wanted for his party. That got me curious. I said we’d never done one before, but i’d look into it.

I texted Coach Ron immediately and we started piecing together what the ultimate kids’ pickleball party would look like.

We had so many questions: Where does the cake go? How long do we run the class for? When do we cut the cake? Where do they eat? Do we need a kitchen? What do the parents do while the kids play?

Once we had a rough plan, we reached out to our mates at @pickleplexau to see if they could support us with the extra amenities. They backed us all the way. Within 24 hours we sent the parent the plan and she was in. From there it was go time.

The parent and i stayed in regular contact as plans shifted and evolved, and my wife was a huge help behind the scenes, sharing her perspective and making sure we nailed the little details that actually matter to parents and kids.

Did everything run perfectly on the day? Not quite. One kid had a moment but he bounced back! But overall it was unreal. Even the coaches said they had a blast.

I’ve always believed pickleball is the perfect entry point into racquet sports for kids, and this birthday party reinforced it. Seeing kids who had never picked up a paddle start rallying within an hour is always wild. And chatting to pleased parents who had never even heard of pickleball before made it even better.

Kids walked away buzzing, parents got to see something new (and have a go themselves!), and it all came back to why Pickle Power Kids exists in the first place.

First tournament. First win. 💥
Day 1 at the Victorian Pickleball Championships 2026 hosted by @pickleballvictoria was a big learning experience for Pickle Power Kids junior, Francis.
Like many first tournaments, it didn’t start easy. Francis opened his U18 Boys Singles campaign with a couple of tough matches while adjusting to the pace, pressure and tournament environment.
But he stayed composed, kept learning each match… and finished the day with his first tournament win. 🙌
That breakthrough moment is huge. Getting that first win under your belt builds belief, momentum and confidence - exactly what you want heading into Day 2.
